« The Cult of Obama, The Gospel of Paul | Main | Keeping Austin Weird »

What You May Not Have Known...

Today is the big debate.  As you've likely heard...it's in Austin...at UT.  But it almost didn't happen.

There were several players in the hunt for the Texas debate.  Some well known...others not so much.

The Greater Houston Partnership publicly announced two weeks ago that Hillary Clinton had accepted an invitation to appear in a debate at America's Energy Future: Houston's Presidential Summit.  It would air on MSNBC.

Clinton, along with Rep. Ron Paul (R) TX, are still on the schedule to deliver addresses at the event.

But behind the scenes there were others working hard to secure both Clinton and Obama in a one on one televised debate, given that Obama had not committed to the GHP.

ABCNews and KTRK were among the entries.  And it seemed close to happening a couple of times.

But Obama's camp wanted the inclusion of a Spanish speaking network.  And so Univision became the swing vote.

While ABC negotiated with Univsion to air the debate at the University of Houston...

And a group in Dallas was working to gain support of both campaigns...

Univsion went with the CNN deal in Austin.

So...while we are getting a debate.  We are not getting one in Houston.  Too bad.

But as Mike Huckabee speaks to a rally in Houston early Thursday morning...my photographer, Tony Chapa, and I are on our way to Austin.

We will have live reports on the debate beginning with Eyewitness News at Four...plus I will post on the goings-on behind the scenes.

Thanks for reading. TA

Sorry S 2433 or HR 1302 are the proper bills

Google S.2344 for more on Obama and his bill to add up to an additional 65 BILLION in foreign aid that will be under the United Nations control not the US government. It sits before the Senate right now ( which isn't back in session yet)so there is still time to let your Senator know we can't afford it. Americans are losing their homes to foreclosure at a record rate , I doubt they even realize what this "generousity" will really cost. Probably more jobs, more homes, and so on and so on....
