A Look Ahead To North Carolina

On Monday, I posted some notes about Pennsylvania.

Today, I'm trying to get ahead of the curve with some information about the primary in North Carolina.

Here's a link to the state board of elections with all of the information voters there need to cast their ballots.

You have until April 11 to register to vote.  So you still have time if you live in The Tar Heel State.

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Mike Gravel are the Democrats on the ballot.

The newest stats on voters in NC (released on March 22) show that there are 5.7 million voters statewide.  Of them, 2.5 million are Democrats and 1.9 million are Republicans.  Another 1.2 million are "unaffiliated".

There are 1-hundred thousand new registered voters since the stats were released in January, as the primary season began.

Obama currently has about a 5 point lead in North Carolina.  It is particularly interesting when you put his appeal into the context of the 1898 election.  It is considered on the state's most historically significant.  Find a history here.  If you think race is an issue NOW...take a good look at the strategy of the day at the turn of 20th century.

NC has 115 delegates (awarded proportionally) and 10 superdelegates.

The primary is the second largest left (behind PA) on the calendar.  The vote is May 6.

We'll update this again as the trends develop closer to election day.

Thanks for reading.  TA
