JibJabberin' With A Spiridellis

So I had my phone interview today with Gregg Spiridellis, co-founder of the website JibJab.

Gregg_lores Gregg Spiridellis  Jibjab_logo_lores

Their new political cartoon went on line late Tuesday night after it premiered on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

Spiridellis tells me they were there in the studio for the premiere (their 12th cartoon premiere on the show) along with 30 coworkers and friends.  And he says the response has been overwhelming.  In fact as of the posting of this article...the server is slow. ..Spirdellis says their computers are keeping up with the demand (though barely) which the company estimates will exceed 1 million hits by the end of today.  JibJab makes its money off of advertising and subscription e-cards, and Spiridellis says it pays well enough to be a full-time venture for him and his brother Evan Spiridellis.

If you haven't seen the new cartoon, titled "Time For Some Campaignin'", it's playable a little further down this page...and it's set to the tune of Bob Dylan's "Time's They Are A Changin'".

Spiridellis says they chose the tune because it's a classic "call for change" song...and was the perfect backdrop for a political season that promises so much but, he says, will deliver little if any change in the end.

He says, "We work hard to make the animation reflect no agenda...but that it also make fun of the political process."

I asked if they'd produce a follow-up before election day and Spiridellis didn't promise anything.  He says they have a full schedule as it is but he says, "to our detriment, we can't help ourselves".  So we may see Obama on a unicorn or McCain commanding a tank again before we vote in the Fall.

Thanks for reading.  And enjoy the video below once the demand slows down...TA

No Obama for me, no way and no how. Sorry Hillary I cannot support you in this and I know you really do not either (unless he changed you too). We will prevail in Denver or it is McCain for me. At least I trust him and I do not trust Obama. My change for the first time in my adult life- vote Republican if it is not Hillary!!!
