Edwards Responds...Or Not...
John Edwards responded to a couple of issues dogging him this week.
First he addressed the persistent rumors surrounding the possibility of another VP run.
Then he answered (by not answering) a series of quick questions about reports in The National Enquirer linked through The Drudge Report that he met a woman the Enquirer claims is mother to Edward's unacknowledged "love child". Edwards is married to Elizabeth (not the woman with whom the Enquirer claims he carried on an affair).
A transcript of the exchanges is below. But you can click directly on the video to watch it. Edwards becomes visibly uncomfortable.
Edwards was in Houston on Wednesday to promote an anti-poverty project called Half In Ten. Our photographer Stephen Davis was at the press conference.
Reporter: Senator, do you have any thoughts if candidate Obama decides to name you as a vice presidential running mate?
Edwards: Well you know you won’t be shocked to hear that I’ve been asked this before and I’ve said the same thing every time. I am not seeking the job and I truly don’t expect to be asked. Anything though that senator Obama asks me to do either in his campaign or in his administration that will allow me to serve my country, I would take very seriously.
Reporter: How do you feel the situation in los angeles on Monday would affect any future in politics in this administration-a potential Obama administration?
Edwards: I don’t know…none. I don’t.
Reporter: None?
Edwards: None.
Reporter: The national enquirer story?
Edwards: I don’t talk about these tabloids. They’re tabloid trash and just full of lies. I am here to talk about helping people.
Thanks for reading. TA

These are all inter-related facets and fundamental to one another. Much of this, in the end, is rooted in tradition, as tradition is another means of expression and symbolism.

I think your complaint should be toward the doctor in this case, not the notary. She didn’t charge you anything, the office did

I just can’t stop reading this. Its so fresh, so filled with updates that I just didn’t know. I am delighted to see that people are in fact writing about this subject in such a elegant way, presenting us all diverse parts to it. You’re a fine blogger. Please carry on with it. I can’t wait to read what’s after that.

Let me ask you liberals something.
Why is the NATIONAL ENQUIRER supposed to be branded as SLEAZY.
Yet a man who chases ambulances for living and cheats on his CANCER VICTIM wife, is NOT considered SLEAZY by you??
I'm sorry, but I believe I know the answer to my own question. You liberals are immoral. When dirt bags like John Edwards and B.J.Clinton are exposed for the SLEAZE that they are, you don't have the brains nor balls to denounce them. And I know why that is. 2 reasons. You wanted so very badly to believe that these SLEAZE BAGS were good men. And secondly, because the SLEAZE BAGS....SUCKERED YOU. They used you. The gained power by lying to you, and they got SEX by getting the POWER that YOU GAVE THEM.
Edwards lives in a 27,000 square foot house and has sex in Hollywood hotel rooms with the mother of his ILLEGITIMATE BABY while his CANCER STRICKEN wife,.....whom he USED when it was convenient, is home with his LEGITIMATE CHILDREN.
Your heroes are garbage libs. Garbage. They SUCKER YOU.

Sorry, I misspelled Enquirer.

ABC covered Edwards because he is/was news. They brought up his purported lovechild because he has presented himself as being lily white, Mister Clean, someone who vigorously supported his wife. What he failed to portray himself as is a lying politician. Good for the National Inquirer and ABC for exposing him for what he is, a white Jesse jackson.

To Ben Keeeler-- I assume you meant, "Obama isn't picking EDWARDS regardless...". But, how do you know that Ben? Most sources report that Edwards is/was on Obama's short list. It makes sense because Edwards garnered quite a few delegates in the primaries, and NC is an important swing state in November.

Obama wasnt picking regardless of this story or not.

Kathy,
I do not think...a ABC 13 Reporter asked the question....
I think....it was another reporter in the room...Last time I checked Obama was not the president....so we do have the right to ask questions!
Have a Cocktail!

We are in serious trouble when ABC News uses the National Enquirer as its source...Why not report on the story the Enquirer covered of Obama and Oprah's affair?
These tabloids are nothing but smears and gossip. It seems the corporate conglomerates, like ABC/Disney, are more than happy to publish these lies because Edwards' work to strengthen the middle class and end poverty threatens ABC's corporate profits.
Corporate America will do anything to maintain its domination of our government and our country.
"I absolutely believe to my soul that this corporate greed and corporate power has an ironclad hold on our democracy." -- Sen. John Edwards, Iowa, 2008

Disappointed,
I hate to disappoint you, but unfortunately..these Tabloids are becoming the MSM...
Posted by: louis | July 23, 2008 at 11:06 PM
I saw this on ABC 13 earlier...
I LOVED IT!!!! Way to go reporter!!...Priceless....
So if Obummer picks ..."ever ready Edwards"...
Reporters can ask Edwards about Love child...and they can ask
Obummer about Larry Sinclair....
I think Jesse Jackson had it right, but he can now add Edwards to the Nut cutting Ceromony....
I say Pass them To my Girl HILLARY....after all she is the Nut Cracker...right?

To "Disappointed"-- If the Enquirer Story is true (the latest evidence looks credible, and Edwards is not denying it), would you still think that it doesn't matter about Edward's character and its effect on his v.p. potential? Is the MSM obligated to wait until Edwards makes an admission before asking him questions about it and reporting his answers (or non-answers)?

To Gwen, Louis, and Sociable-- To answer your earlier question Gwen, our fun-loving little group could be called: (1) "The Four Horse-Politicos of the Apocalypse"; (2) "The Four-Lorn Politicos of the Apocalypse"; or the shorter (3) "Four-Lorn American Politicos" which has the apt acronym of "FLAP". Can you three folks drink to any of these?

I am not an Edwards fan, never have been, but what is the deal with ABC news only covering a sleazy tabloid story rather than covering a much more important story of poverty in Houston? I have watched Channel 13 for over 3 years now since moving to Houston and it seems ridiculous to me that they would stoop to that level. Are they just trying to make a Democratic VP candidate look like trash to stir up the political pot? I doubt that such a story would ever be run if Kay Bailey Hutchinson had her bastard child reported in the Enquirer.

Louis--Thanks for the "welcome" on the July 22 post. I wish I could view the KTRK news casts live from here in NC. There's always so much going in the Houston area--hurricanes, raw politics, border issues, oil boom & bust, etc. Plus, I'm a fan of Tom's and would like to see his regular live casts in addition to his few video pieces that get posted on TV-13's regular website.

How can this be a real issue c'mon. You could talk about a variety of other things such as how CBS edited their interview with McCain about the surge.

Dr. Max H: Thanks for the insight to this sleasy weasel. True, he is definitely a Socialist Democrat, and should thank his parents for giving him birth in America, which he wants to destroy.

Just Notice how Edwards eyes flicker when he is lying. What a dead give-away. Truly, you have to wonder how Edwards was able to convince local North Carolina juries to vote for his cases. Watch Edward's face when he speaks: there is such a twist of lies and deceits in his face that it is startling to watch. I understand that in one of Edwards' big cases, he convinced a NC jury to belief in Junk science by channeling the supposed gushing words and teary feelings of a baby being born with birth defects because the doctor supposedly did not deliver it quickly enough. After the jury awarded millions to Edward's clients, it was discovered that the birth defects have nothing to do with how a doctor performs during the delivery.---But truth and science never mattered to John Edwards. Only the millions he has stolen from good doctors in North Carolina. I guess this is what makes him such a perfect democrat: his willingness to stare truth in the face and lie his ass off.

I don't know about the tabloid stories, but I'm from North Carolina, and I can tell you that during his six-year senate term, John Edwards did absolutely nothing for my state. He wanted to be a senator for one reason only--to launch a run for pres. or v.p. Most of the NC voters were aware of this--you may recall that NC went for Bush in '04, so even in his own state Edwards was no help to Kerry. If Obama does pick Edwards for v.p., I don't think it will help him one bit. A much better v.p. choice for Obama would be former gov. of PA, Ed Rendell, who would balance the ticket as someone older (64) with who good executive experience and could help Obama win PA, a hotly contested state.
