« Why Does Rice Play Texas: Answer | Main | A Very Green $ummer »

Oh Say Can You Hear?

Here's a bit of an unusual post.  It's not really political in nature.  But it did occur at a Barack Obama rally in Detroit, MI.

Before Obama spoke that night, he was preceded by Al Gore, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, Chauncey Billups, and a woman who sang a fantastic national anthem.  Her name is LaShell Griffin.

She was the winner of Oprah's Pop Star Challenge.

It's not iconic in its delivery-but it is special...particularly the high note she hits at the end.  And so I thought it would be good to share with you.

Though the entire song is captured in the video clip below, my photographer, Willie Dixon, was rolling video on other elements.  And so while you don't see Griffin through the entire performance, you can hear her.

And it's memorable.

Enjoy.  And thanks for reading. TA

Thank you for sharing this! it is evident you are a very special young man. I feel you are a great asset as well as the entire TEAM to the network. Thank GOD for our FREEDOM through MILITARY VICTORIES! I have been faithful in appreciating "Channel 13" as we use to refer to, for more years than I want to remember. I have always enjoyed and had great respect for the excellence and finally love the humor. I have always had the utmost respect for Dave Ward, SF, DK and all you that have followed in their footsteps. I have watched Gina mature into a lovely professional young lady. We are fortunate to have WD, our Meteorologists, and the entire team that help to inform us so we can be careful, live the best lives we chose to live, and with tears,I miss Marvin! I also miss Dr. Red Duke. Please take good care of yourselves and your loved ones and GOD bless! Always remember what you report, TOMORROW IS NOT PROMISED!

In Christ,
Pam

P.S. Sorry for the Book, one of these days/nights I hope to come by and say Hi. It would be a joy for me.

The girl can sing, thats for sure, but thats not the way Francis Key Scott wrote it. Why do people have to change it when they sing it. Just sing it the way it was written.

That was "Diva-ized" Didn't edit before posting, yuck!

Gwen S.

Although I believe she sings very well, some songs(especially The Star Spangled Banner) do not need to be "deva-ized".

Ella

That girl has some serious pipes!

justvisiting
